30 writing and poetry prompts to inspire you to write a poem in May!

Hi everyone!

May arrives amidst the wild blooms of spring. We have watched nature reclaim its power after its long winter slumber. Returning life, light, and color to our day. The perfect time for us to practice the gentle art of pausing. Searching for those small wonders of life happening all around us. May brings us an abundance of creativity and inspiration. Just as nature flourishes, so do the people around us. All of us are matching the seasons, and this season is all about returning to the simple joys of life. I hope you will take May’s invitation and create space for all the things you love.

As April ends, so does NaPoWriMo. And yes, I did write 30 poems in 30 days! Although it did not always go as planned. I will be sharing an in-depth post about the writing process and the learning experiences soon. I am grateful I was able to anchor myself to my mantra word, “Gentleness”, as I did experience some setbacks due to my health.

I want to thank everyone who joined in and wrote for my NaPoWriMo prompts this April. And a special thank you to Emmasteel and Fromtenderground on Substack, for writing with me every day. I loved reading your daily poems inspired by these poetry prompts.

April has been an incredible month for me to rediscover myself and step outside of my comfort zone. What is safe often limits growth. So inspired by spring, I stretch myself further out towards the sun. This sense of being boundless did translate into the poems I wrote for NaPoWriMo. I will be sharing some of my favourite poems I wrote in April in a post on substack, since I only shared them daily through my notes or on Instagram.

If you are in need of some writing inspiration, perhaps these poetry prompts might help you write your next poem. For May, I have chosen 25 poetry prompts and 5 creative writing prompts to spark inspiration. These prompts are designed to stretch your imagination and invite you to explore new perspectives. I encourage you to use them flexibly. Feel free to adapt, twist, and follow them with curiosity wherever they may lead.
