Discover all the inspirational seeds of poetry March has to offer us. We'll be looking into World Poetry Day, International Day of forests, and preparing ourselves for Napowrimo / Escapril in April.
March arrives with an abundance of writing inspiration. This month is scattered with inspirational seeds for you to gather and nourish, so they can bloom when April arrives. These seeds can be found during inspiring days in March. On World Poetry Day (21st of March), we can immerse ourselves in poetry. International Day of Forests also falls on this day, reminding us how forests and trees can inspire our writing. Poetry and nature often go hand in hand. Gathering these seeds prepares you for National Poetry Writing Month/Escapril in April.
World Poetry Day
21st March is World Poetry Day. This day raises awareness of the power of words and the bridge they offer between cultures around the world. Poetry uniting global voices in a world that seems barely held together these days. Poetry offers us an honest view of humanity and the human experience through the eyes of the poets.
How can we join in on World Poetry Day?
Attend a poetry reading in your community.
Sign up for a poetry writing workshop.
Treat yourself to a new poetry book and support your favourite poet.
Read poetry from poets around the world.
Learn a new poetry form and write a poem in that form.
Find more ideas in my blog post about World Poetry Day.
What are the creative seeds here?
A poet and a writer learn by reading and taking words to heart. Poetry evokes emotion, and these emotions naturally spark inspiration.
Diversifying your reading broadens your worldview. We write about what we experience and what we know. The broader the knowledge is, the broader our creative mind will stretch.
Joining a workshop will not only sharpen our writing skills but also provide the wonderful experience of writing in a supportive community.
Keep a notebook around and write down all the thoughts, feelings, and new poetry ideas that come to mind this day. Treasure them as keepsakes you can return to when you are in need of inspiration.

International Day of Forests
International Day of Forests raises awareness of the importance of forests and trees. Inviting us to join in on activities centered around forests and trees. There are many creative and fun ways you can join in on this day.
How to join in on the International Day of Forests
Join a local tree-planting or clean-up campaign.
Visit a local forest and go for a nature walk.
Sign up for a workshop on building insect hotels.
Share your own forest photography or art online.
Write a poem on the importance of forests and trees and share it online.
What are the creative seeds here?
Nature offers us a source of writing inspiration that has inspired even the greatest poets like Mary Oliver, Emily Dickinson, and Robert Frost.
Joining local activities centers us in the community. The act of working together to protect something sacred is so powerful and inspirational.
Become inspired by the nature photography and art you are admiring. Art inspires art. Perhaps write a poem in collaboration with the artist.
Creativity often grows from practising different forms of art. By crafting something with your hands, your mind is being creative without the pressure of finding the right words. Often, poems come to mind when we are looking at art through a different form.
Napowrimo / Escapril
April is National Poetry Writing Month in the USA and Canada, and invites us to write a poem every day of the month. While Escapril offers us the same, it was created by the poet Savannah Brown to encourage you to write, tag, and share your poems online. Joining the supportive and inspiring poetry community that exists on social media platforms.
This makes for 30 poems in 30 days! That is quite the challenge.
Just like last year, I will be providing my own Napowrimo prompt list to offer you some writing inspiration for every day of April. This will be shared next week. I will be writing alongside you every day and posting a poem inspired by the same prompt. Because in April, we write poetry together.
Those seeds we gathered in March will offer you plenty of inspiration to write in April, and perhaps, you could even consider bundling your poems from that month into a small poetry collection.
Napowrimo is all about writing poetry, being part of a supportive community, sharing your words, and supporting other poets. And I hope you will be joining me in April so we can write together.
Poems of the month

Book quote of the month
“Art is about feelings and emotion. It's about letting them escape, so they can be shared. It's about capturing a truth about yourself. Like you're ripping a hole in your chest and exposing your soul.”
