31 daily Poetry prompts in July to write a poem a day during the summer of 2026.
There is a strange but beautiful feeling about the month of July. We have passed the solstice, and although the days are long and warm, we have quietly slipped back into the descent towards the dark. If June was the loud arrival of summer, then July would be quiet in between. A place where we can sit in the stillness of all that there is and just let it all be what it needs to be.
July, for me, will be a month when I learn to let go. To soften my grip on control and trust that what has been given before will be enough to continue on. My oldest son is starting a new adventure in secondary school after the summer holiday. One, I know, he will grow even more into his bright and beautiful self. Still, the tears have been overflowing these last few days, for both of us. Starting anew is frightening for everyone, and so is letting go. Both go hand in hand. To let go is a gentle invitation to welcome something new in. I told my son that this is not an ending. An ending is rarely an actual ending to something unless we make it so. Let it be a start to welcome more of this world inside of you.
With roots planted firmly in the soil, I know he will grow each year higher and higher, and what starts with a few close trees growing around him will soon become a forest. I know great things await him. I am so proud of him with every fiber of my being.
During the summer holiday, I might not be as fully present on my platforms because, well, children always come first. So, for the summer, I will be sharing plenty of writing ideas and prompts to keep you inspired and busy. For July, I have chosen 31 poetry prompts, and during the month, I will be posting even more prompts in my notes/stories as well. I encourage you to adapt, twist, and follow them with curiosity.
