Every year, I feel this quiet shift in the midst of summer. While July felt radiant and alive, August carries this sense of sadness. The branches sigh underneath the weight of the heatwaves, the grass is fading by the droughts, the sky stays cloudless until another summer storm arrives. July has been intense for all of us, and it feels as if August is ready to say goodbye to summer. Or maybe it is this soft ache for Autumn that I am already feeling deep in my soul.

August has always been a difficult month for me. A month where my heart is taken hostage by grief and the lingering ache of loss. My mother (57) and a dear friend of mine (37), who are no longer here with us, would be celebrating their birthdays this month. And even as the years pass by, I can’t help myself from still searching for their warmth, love, light, and every trace they left behind. Two people who made me feel seen in a life where I felt invisible and non-existent. Who made me realise that even with all the brokenness in me, I still mattered. Even in the invisible, the right people will still notice us for who we are. This month grief will be in my heart and I will give it all the space and time it needs.

As I mentioned in my previous prompt post, it has been a challenge being fully present during the summer vacation. We have all sorts of projects around the house, and yes, the kids keep me plenty busy as well.
